 This Billy Strayhorn composition became Duke Ellington's signature tune. Every student of jazz should be familiar with this standard, and this easy combo arrangement by Roger Holmes is the perfect way to "Take The "A" Train".
Technical Notes: This set of parts uses a unique instrumentation approach. In addition to the rhythm section parts (piano, guitar, bass, drums), this set includes four melody instrument parts, divided among the saxes, trumpets, and trombones. The recommended instrumentation is to have part 1 played by a trumpet, part 2 played by an alto saxophone, part 3 played by a tenor saxophone and part 4 played by a trombone. Also included are optional parts for each of the melody parts - part 1 includes both the recommended trumpet part and an optional alto saxophone part, part 2 includes both the recommended alto saxophone part and an optional trumpet part, part 3 includes the recommended tenor saxophone part as well as optional parts for alto saxophone and trombone, and part 4 includes the recommended trombone part plus an optional tenor saxophone part. You can have one person play each of the four parts, or you can double (or more) each part for even more players. This product has a difficulty rating of 2-2.5 on a scale of 1 to 6 with 6 being the hardest. This piece was arranged by Roger Holmes. This piece was composed by Billy Strayhorn.
